TUESDAY RELEASES - DEATH MAGNETIC EDITION

A condensed list of today’s releases (from metacritic):

Joan Baez - Day After Tomorrow

Eric Benet - Love & Life

Calexico - Carried to Dust

Michael Franti - All Rebel Rockers

Fujiya & Miyagi - Lightbulbs

Gym Class Heroes - The Quilt

Hal Ketchum - Father Time

LL Cool J - Exit 13

Patty Loveless - Sleepless Nights

Metallica - Death Magnetic

Okkervil River - The Stand Ins

Joan Osborne - Little Wild One

Jessica Simpson - Do You Know

Dar Williams - Promised Land

It’s all about Death Magnetic for me since my affection for Kirk Hammett is well documented on the internets.

In other news…  The LA Times had a nice article about Alejandro Escovedo, Nada Surf are heading out on a fall tour, and Travis has a new video for J. Smith (see below).

That’s all for today, boys and girls. Feel free to email us at musicblog@sxsw.com.

PANELISTS IN THE NEWS

Rob GlaserRob Glaser, CEO of RealNetworks is in the news today with the launch of Real’s DVD copying software. While audio copying software has been widely available for years, copyright and computer limitations have made DVD copying difficult. Real’s entry into the market is significant and surely has the suits in Hollywood taking notice today.

When he spoke at SXSW 2008, Glaser addressed the music market specifically, and offered a few thoughts as to where he saw it going. Glaser was interviewed by Tamara Conniff. Check out the video here.
