MONDAY NEWS - CORNELIUS, UNDERWORLD AND KIRK HAMMETT… AND THE OLYMPICS

This is some old news and yes, it’s true, I will be glued to my TV watching Olympic coverage for the next two weeks (or until I go to Red Rocks and Texas for some My Morning Jacket shows).

Anyway, how about that Zhang Yimou directed opening ceremony? Seriously kick ass for sure.

But on to musical type things…
The always adorable, always cool Cornelius has a 5.1 stereo surround sound DVD coming out called Sensurround. In honor of this groovy new collection of songs from Sensuous, let’s take a walk back in time to one of my favorite music videos ever, Cornelius’ “Star Fruits Surf Rider.”

The lads from Underworld debuted an art show entitled “Beautiful Burnout” at New York’s Jacobson Howard Gallery. You can see more here. Love Underworld like I do? Enjoy this walk down blissful memory lane with the video for “Jumbo.”

And last but not least, Metallica are getting their own XM Satellite station for six weeks. Never have I wanted satellite radio more. Kirk, I love you! “Mandatory Metallica” starts August 16th and will feature the band’s entire catalog as well as rare live recordings. All four members will serve as hosts and the station will also feature interviews with members of Linkin Park, Slipknot, Guns n’ Roses and others discussing Metallica’s impact on their lives. Since I only care about the KH, I must share with you this video of him showing off some tasty riffs.

More fun things coming your way tomorrow. As always, you may email us at musicblog@sxsw.com. No one sent me any wombats. I’m a bit sad, really.

Okay, back to the gymnastics, lp
