Panel Picker Voting Extended Through September 1

Given the massive surge we have seen today on the SXSW Interactive Panel Picker voting interface, we have decided to keep the polls open through the Labor Day weekend.

Votes and comments will be accepted through 11:59 pm on Monday, September 1 — so you should have a little more time to browse the 1300+ proposals that have been submitted for the 2009 Interactive event.

Also, if all goes as planned, we should be making the first round of programming announcements (i.e., accepted ideas) in early October. Happy voting, Happy Labor Day, Happy SXSW Interactive.

TRANCE WILL NEVER DIE

I ran the record label Trance Syndicate many years, releasing mostly noise-rock and experimental stuff, all with the vision of owner King Coffey. I bring this up to tell you all that it was astounding in the middle-90s, at the height of the genre know as trance, how many demos we would get that had nothing to do with the Trance label’s aesthetic. We cracked up! We still own a few to this day, as there is nothing more intriguing than lo-fi, bass thumping cassettes. So bad it hurts — in a good way.

A friend sent me this video link today. I’m shaking. Yes, Boss Man, I know I should be working. I’ve already called three labels today and it’s not even noon! Anyway, my fellow booker Matt Sonzala posted this link also, on the ScrewShop forum (a very popular Southern hip hop board dedicated to DJ Screw). It might be the first and only trance video post. I’m afraid that Matt might get kicked off the board.
