THE GUTTER TWINS - BACK ON TOUR (IS GREG DULLI STILL A BABE?)

The devlish duo of Mark Lanagan and Greg Dulli are headed back on tour. In honor of this news, please enjoy this rather bizarre video someone put together to the tune of “Idle Hands”).

I remember the first time I saw The Afghan Whigs live. I fully understood why women wanted to throw their underwear on stage and stuff. Then I met GD. I will admit the effect was rather… less potent irl… as most things are. (What is it about the stage, I wonder, that makes Gods of men. There must be a book this somewhere.)

Anyway, you can’t deny that hawt voice! I heard a funny story about how he has a drink holder and ashtray on his mic stand. That is… dedication.

Sony Acquires Gracenote in Digital Commerce Deal

MGMTSony, whose presence at SXSW 2008 ran the gamut from buzz bands MGMT and The Ting Tings to supporting the SXSW Film festival, recently purchased Gracenote, the company that tracks album information for music services like iTunes. Gracenote is also is integrating its technology into mobile phones, home audio gear, and DVDs.

“Gracenote is a global leader in technology and services for digital media identification, enrichment, and recommendation, and these capabilities will be essential to the next wave of innovation in content, services, and consumer electronics,” said Tim Schaaff, SCA Senior Vice President, Software.

As a fitting Texas tribute, Sony Legacy released the Willie Nelson boxed set in time for SXSW 2008 and Willie’s 75th birthday. The company’s broad base of international artists at SXSW included Allison (Mexico), Circo (Puerto Rico), Australia’s Old Man River and Ireland’s Paddy Casey.

Sony and Gracenote anticipate that the transaction will close in late May, subject to regulatory approvals.
