Mentors & Mini-Meetings and the Four-Day Film School

SXSW Film
At SXSW 2008, Film, Gold, and Platinum badgeholders will have access to our annual lineup of panels, workshops, and discussions. Among the most popular, are the Mentor Sessions and Mini-Meetings. We’ve billed this track of panels as our “Four-Day Film School,” with the goal being to highlight current trends and how-to, hands-on advice. For these panels, registrants are asked to sign up the morning of each day to make sure you reserve a slot. They fill up quickly, so act fast once the day starts. Some of these Mentor Sessions and Mini-Meetings include:

SATURDAY, MARCH 8:

What Has the Writers Strike Taught Us?

Do I Really Want to Make My Movie?

SUNDAY, MARCH 9:

So You Want to Be an Entertainment Attorney

Mentor Session: Festival Programmers

MONDAY, MARCH 10:

Mentor Session: Press/Bloggers

Editing 101

TUESDAY, MARCH 11:

The Morning After

Mentor Session: Publicists

PICK THREE - COLIN GILMORE

Austin resident Colin Gilmore grew up mixing his own rich history steeped in Texas music tradition with a personal bent towards punk rock. He’s become a talented singer-songwriter whose sweet voice reminds this writer of a 1950s postcard, all black and white to color and wish you were here.

Colin enjoys surfing but by all accounts (okay, his account) fails miserably at it. He went for a Sound Recording degree in college and got a B.A. in Anthropology instead. He enjoys bothering both his wife (SXSW’s own Tammy Lynn Gilmore) and kitty with obnoxious jokes.

You can catch him Thursday night (during SXSW Music) at 8 pm at the Thirsty Nickel.

He was decent enough to do a Pick Three

Tilly and the Wall: I saw them on accident a few years ago at Emos, with a crowd of about 20 people. I was blown away. Talk about original and energetic! They’ve apparently come a good ways since then.

Billy Bragg: He’s got such a good outlook on the world and puts it
to beautiful music.

Dolly Parton: Do I really need to explain? She’s got the voice and background of an angel.

Sorry we’ve been slow around here today. Okay, sorry I’ve been slow around here today. SXSW starts in 11 days. That’s like a lifetime right? Only if you’re a butterfly. Check out other Pick Three good times here. Email pictures of Galactus to musicblog@sxsw.com. Devouring worlds one planet at a time, lp
