PICK THREE - ANDY FLYNN OF SXSW
I’m sitting in Andy Flynn’s kitchen while he chops up vegetables that are headed into some superbly delicious dish that will soon be called dinner. What is it with all these great cooks at SXSW? I can barely boil water. It’s shameful, really.
Since Andy’s cooking for me it seems only fitting that I post his Pick Three. Mr. Flynn has been the Panels King since 2002, but has worked for the festival since ‘97 (when he took over my old job… lucky man, hee hee). In addition to conjuring up the tasty morsels, he enjoys photography and playing Tiger Woods Golf on his Wii.
Succinctly presented, Andy Flynn’s Pick Three…
Alabama 3 - Great live show, rare US appearance, still the best electro-roots fusion ever.
R.E.M. - They’re bringing back the rock. You can hear the new single at remhq.com.
Yeasayer - Sharp youngsters with great choral vocals and an interesting amalgamation of influences.
The Pick Threes and blog goodness are about to start coming at a fast and furious pace so stay tuned, good people! Better yet, if you have an RSS feed reader thingy, you can subscribe here. All blog related emails should mosey on over to musicblog@sxsw.com. I can’t help you with wristbands but feel free to tell me how cool I am - oh wait, I’m not cool, so nevermind. I’m not even uncool like Lester Bangs and William Miller in Almost Famous. I’m like Yankee Candles and Grishams uncool (thanks David Cross).
