Ubiquity Recordings at SXSW ’08

Darondo at SXSW 2008
SXSW is proud to announce yet another groundbreaking label showcase for SXSW ’08!

San Francisco based Ubiquity Recordings will present a night of soul, funk, hip-hop and jazz, anchored by the Texas debut of the mysterious soul singer - Darondo!

In the early 1970’s, Darondo seemed to have the world at his diamond ring covered fingertips. He released three singles to much critical acclaim, 7” 45’s in fact, and then virtually disappeared. His records were highly sought after for years by collectors and when Ubiquity found the man behind the many myths, they inked a deal and reissued the singles with a few unreleased tracks Darondo found in his archives. He did his first show in 25 years in mid-December in San Francisco and we are ecstatic to announce that he will be in Austin with us this coming March.

The bill is rounded out by some incredible soul, jazz and funk that the label has become known for. Connie Price and the Keystones, Orgonne, The Lions and rapper Ohmega Watts are all on deck for this priceless showcase.

Austin Music Minute: The Gourds

Before they head out for some tour dates on the West Coast, The Gourds will play a handful of Texas shows, including one at Antone’s this Friday night. This is definitely a band you need to experience live. As they see it, their energy comes from the music and "a near-pathological need for a good time." San Marcos artists The Dedringers get the night started.
