Argentina’s underground surfaces in Austin at SXSW ‘08

El RemolonFueled by a recent podcast by the genre-splitting DJ – and SXSW Veteran - Diplo, the dance music currently pumping through the streets of Buenos Aires is getting a lot of attention here stateside. Mixing cumbia melodies with way out electro sounds and samples artists like El Remolon, Frikstailers, Axel Krygier, Fauna, King Coya & El Trip Selector, Oro11 and Tremor are bringing the new sound of Argentina to the world.

Centered around a club night called ZIZEK that goes down weekly in Buenos Aires, this community of musicians plans to bring an all new sound to the dance floors at SXSW ’08.

Austin Music Minute: Peter Case

People still remember songwriter Peter Case from his days with The Plimsouls, but this self-taught musician has enjoyed a vibrant solo career since 1986, with several albums and a number of collaborations to his credit. He’s performing tomorrow night at the Cactus Café, located in the Texas Union building on the UT Campus. Gurf Morlix and Romi Mayes will open the show.
